The Heart Beat

on the day that I met her
her hips were swaying from side to side
I would never forget her
I could hear angels sing with one look in her eyes
I said "hi how are you, my name is Jer
didn't want to be the weird guy, just sit and stare
can I buy you a drink, maybe snag a dance?"

she said "you were better off snaggin that glance"

"girl what exactly are you trying to tell me?"

"well for starters I have two left feet

my attempt at rhythm is pretty beat
and I never know who has the lead"

so I grabbed her hand like 'girl lets go!'
one for the money and two for the show
and tonight it's about me and and you

now breath real deep

cause a heart has a rhythm to, like

bum bum bum bum

bum bum bum bum bum
bum bum

sometimes...I drink

My momma always told me
Boy I taught you better
Than to go out drinking every night
Just tryin to find another man to fight
I tried telling her
It’s not my fault
It’s a horrible disease after all
I know I got more important things to do
But I don’t wanna spend the night playin cute with you
And I got this dry spot in the back of my throat
Oh damn, I shouldn’t
But I am

9 o clock came rollin around
I strapped up my drinkin boots
Ready to go to town
I found myself staring face to face
With porcelain and glass herself, oh this should be great
She said “I’m really glad to see, you’ve changed your ways
You’ve come really far from back in the day
Put down the bottle and picked up your grades
You’re living proof that men never change”
Once my lecture was done from the lifetime channel
I was 7 or 8 deep, and couldn’t stand without the mantle
She said go ahead and just kill the handle
Oh damn, I shouldn’t
But I am

wasn't our dock

Talking of a backyard paradise
Our hometown and how proud beliefs and dreams
I looked at him from my lawn chair
And I said
There aint no place like this in the whole wide world
There aint nothing like these American girls
I got what I love and love what I got
We only got a little
But it sure is a lot

Well I slowly got up
And prepared to leave
I saw a shooting star that complimented the breeze
I gave you a hug and all my best
Cause I knew you were ready for what was coming next
I stepped back looked at you and said
I love you Chris you’re my boy til the end
I’ll never forget what we spoke of while we drank
All we said is all what I’ve sang

Talking of a backyard paradise

Our hometown and how proud beliefs and dreams
I looked at him from my lawn chair
And I said
There aint no place like this in the whole wide world
There aint nothing like these American girls
I got what I love and love what I got
We only got a little
But it sure is a lot

Then he came to me with a legitimate plea
Jer, you’ve gotta help me
Help me believe what I’m doing is right
Give me the strength the guts and the courage to fight

I told him to say

Lord knows
This is what I’m supposed to do
Lord knows
I’ll come home in one piece
Lord help me
See this through
Lord I thank you
For all you’ve given to me

Talking of a backyard paradise
Our hometown and how proud beliefs and dreams
I looked at him from my lawn chair
And I said
There aint no place like this in the whole wide world
There aint nothing like these American girls
I got what I love and love what I got
We only got a little
But it sure is a lot

for me

It’s getting cold again
And I am trying to stay warm
And all these girls have all these reasons
And all their minds seem to sway with seasons

Now as I ride along
The longest day
The hardest day for sure
I find myself not on the ground
But up in the clouds
And you never thought id be
I’m doing this for me

I’m getting warm again
And I am starting to feel home
